Well, that was a cool episode. A homage to John Hughes films all over the place. And the dedication at the end was totally neat.
Let me see what movies were included in this homage: Home Alone, Pretty in Pink, and Sixteen Candles for sure. I think I missed a couple, but don't know which ones.
Jamie lived out Home Alone. Only he managed to manipulate the situation so he was alone. That was totally classic. I so want to smack Junk and Fergie for not checking with Haley about what was going on. But they trusted Jamie and got snowed something fierce. I did like their attempted break-in and Jamie's response. That paint balling was too funny.
Haley lived out Sixteen Candles. It's her birthday and everyone around her forgot about it. Nathan remembered, but he was stranded too far away to do anything about it. Jamie forgot (even with hints), Brooke forgot, Quinn(!) forgot, and the bartender (Grubs?) didn't even notice when he saw her drivers license. Luckily, Nathan got back and sat by the car in another reference to Sixteen Candles and the ending kiss is also right out of the movie. Loved it.
Julian as Duckie (from Pretty in Pink) was just too damn funny. Him being a geek in high school is a little unimaginable. For a bit, I thought Alex was trying to get back with Julian, and so was pleasantly surprised when she was actually trying to get him and Brooke back together. I think that the scene with the half car in the shop was from a movie, but I can't remember which one.
And now for character stuff.
Brooke and Julian continue to be somewhat at odds with each other. Neither is really upset, but they are trying to figure out how to make this friendship work. It is really awkward particularly given the fact that they still care for each other and that each has someone who could be a potential suitor/ess waiting in the wings. These two have so much potential to hurt each other, they just need to calm down and give each other the benefit of the doubt. I think they are starting on that journey, but still have a way to go.
I feel so bad for Haley. No one remembers her birthday or takes any of her hints about it. Grubs (the bartender) I can sort of forgive; but seriously, it is right there on her license for god's sake!; but not anyone else. Well, maybe Jamie, but Quinn should be able to keep track of stuff like that. At least Nathan remembered, he just got stuck far away.
I feel bad for Nathan which is why I am not going to bitchslap him for going off on Clay. While I totally understand the reaction, it was a bit much. And the look on his face when Clay revealed the truth about Sarah was just priceless. He looked so guilty and so bad about it. Clay really does understand missing someone all the time. I am glad Nathan knows about it now so that he can be an even better friend.
Quinn and the other woman (Kaylie?) were perfect together. Laughed out loud at the smoothie near the beginning, giggled at the slut car, and guffawed at the hair in the locker. And the hilarity of Mouth going out with her was just too much.
Watching Julian be a director at the end was neat. Good luck!
